Spira History: Lesson 10.2 (Jaguar)

After years living outside of the public eye, Spira exploded back onto the scene in the ’80s. In 1980, Spira was presented with an investment opportunity for the development of an unconventional sports car with a stainless steel exterior and gull-wing doors. Spira bought in and, the very next year, the first DeLorean rolled off the assembly line. A few years later, at Spira’s request, it was featured in the Back to the Future trilogy. Spira’s Hollywood connections convinced him to take advantage of the rising popularity of martial arts TV shows and Spira was soon guest-starring on programs across the US and Canada. Spira had always been big in Japan, and this was only the beginning. His popularity led to numerous commercial endorsements, most notably for Tom Spira Action Jeans, which sold for a very reasonable $19.95 and promised flexibility, durability, comfort and style. Indeed, the ’80s were an age of unparalleled decadence, prosperity and martinis, and Spira was just getting started…
